Phonics Resources for KS1 & Early Years

Engaging in phonics is the first step to teaching children how to read, write and form words. They help children to understand the sounds that words are made of. At Early Years Resources we stock a range of phonics teaching resources suitable for use in preschools, nursery schools, primary schools, at home, daycare centres and other early years educational settings.

Each resource has been carefully selected to help you teach the skills necessary for children to learn to read and spell. Our extensive range of early years phonics products are suitable for delivering a synthetic phonics program, such as Letters and Sounds teaching resources and Jolly Phonics resources.

We have a wide selection of Phase 1 phonics resources to help children develop their speaking and listening skills, as they work at Phase 1 of the Letters and Sounds programme.

You can also find Phase 2, Phase 3, Phase 4 and Phase 5 phonics resources right here! From games to phonics activities, we have all the resources your children need to progress through the Letters and Sounds phases.

Ideal for use as an intervention resource with individuals or small groups of children who are struggling with their phonics development.

FAQ's About Phonics Resources

What resources can be used to teach phonics?

There are a ton of resources that can be used to teach phonics. Some of the ones we supply include:

  • Alphabet/phonics bean bags
  • Phonics books
  • Phonics lacing beads
  • Rhyming box
  • Phonics dice
  • Phonics fans
  • Phonics workbooks
  • Magnetic letters

What is the best method to teach phonics?

The best and most popular way to teach phonics is in a systematic way, starting from simple to complex activities. This often involves learning the names of letters and then sounding out each letter. After this children can then progress into blending Phonemes together to form short words and to form Digraphs and Trigraphs by combining two to three letters to create sounds. After this children can then progress into creating CVC words and engaging in decodable books to further their skills.

What is the first thing to teach in phonics?

It is common for phonics to be taught systematically in the classroom. This starts with learning the letter names, followed by the sound of each letter (Phonemes).
